Changing Batteries retrospective
Today we look at a short animation called "Changing Batteries" and a robot who helps look after an old lady. At the beginning we are introduction to are characters, an old lady who's son doesn't visit her anymore and the robot sent by her son to take care of her. First thing who notice is that the short has no dialogue, this would be fine if the background music wasn't so repetitive, it's just somber piano music that doesn't make the final scene earned. Next is the animation which is clunky by using a somewhat photorealistic feel but somehow endearing despite the music, we next see that the robot displays human qualities as he and old lady bound. After that we see that they plan to go to the circus but the old lady dies before they do, the robot not understanding death tries to use his own batteries to bring the old lady back but to no avail. After some time the robot runs out of power and turns off, where he is reunited with his friend as they head off to the circus, this is a very bittersweet ending because despite them both dying, they managed to go to the circus but why the son never turned up raises questions.
